Waco, Texas– First Central Credit Union has had great success in helping many families in the Waco area by motivating others to donate non-perishable food items. Again this year, the credit union will match pound-for-pound all donations collected prior to the Friday, November 21st collection day.
The “Double Dare” First Central Credit Union Challenge enables your donation at any of the branch locations to double its impact for those in need. “We challenge everyone to donate,” said First Central President JoBetsy Tyler, “let’s help those in need have a holiday season to remember and a better community in which to live.”
Food for Families is an annual project for the Boy Scouts of America, H.E.B. Grocery Company, Texas Army National Guard and KWTX-TV. Together with food pantries all across Central Texas, this one-day food drive collects non-perishable food and stocks the shelves of area food banks and pantries beyond the holiday season.
On the Friday before Thanksgiving, volunteers from the Boy Scouts, H.E.B. Grocery Company, Texas Army National Guard and other community organizations, collect food in nine Central Texas counties. Food For Families is the largest one-day food drive in Texas. All donated food serves the people in the county in which it was collected. Central Texans have generously donated food and money totaling more than one million pounds each year for the past seven years.
Suggested items compiled by pantries participating in Food For Families are peanut butter, flour, rice, breakfast cereal, tuna, spaghetti sauce, powdered milk, macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables, jello, dry beans, sugar, fruit juice cans, spaghetti, soup, and powdered mash potatoes.
First Central has branch locations in the Waco area at 3100 Bellmead Drive; 6201 Sanger Avenue; and 9101 Chapel Road. Other Central Texas locations are Hillsboro at 305 Coke Street and Brownwood at 2101 Fisk Street.
