6th Annual Discover Downtown Whitney And Classic Car Show

Hill College Rebels

Members of the Hill College marketing and communications team recently unveiled the college’s new athletic mascot to students and staff members prior to the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.

Hill College Director of Marketing and Communications Derik Moore said the new mascot will take the place of Rowdy Rebel, which had been around for a little over a decade.

“Based on survey results from 2015, no one really cared for the Rowdy mascot,” Moore said, “so we formed a focus group to help oversee a new athletic identity for the college.”

Moore said six individuals were hand selected by college administration to be part of the focus group, which consisted of faculty and staff from Cleburne, Hillsboro, the Cleburne Technical Center as well as a Hill College freshman student.

The focus group worked closely with the graphic designer – answering questionnaires and proofing two rounds of concepts before the current mascot was selected. Some of the non-negotiable items the focus group and designer had to keep in mind were the colors red and blue must remain the same as well as the name “Rebels.”

“Throughout the entire re-branding process, our Board of Regents and President Dr. Pam Boehm were kept in the loop,” Moore added.

Moore said the actual mascot was approved in early June, but it was kept a secret until students and staff members returned for the fall semester.

“Please keep in mind that the original Hill College ‘square’ logo is the official image of Hill College,” Moore added. “The new image will be primarily used as the college’s athletic identity.”
Flags, signs and banners containing the college’s news mascot are already prevalent at each of Hill College’s campuses and centers. Also, additional items have been ordered – such as apparel – and will be available for purchase at the Hill College Campus Stores.
